Customizing smart outlet icons on your mobile app is a quick way to make your IoT home control more personalized. When you first set up a smart outlet, the app typically assigns it a generic symbol like a standard outlet or a lightbulb. But if you have several smart plugs controlling different devices—like a brewer, a ceiling fan, or a decorative illumination—you can assign specific visuals that reflect what’s plugged in. This helps you easily distinguish which outlet controls which device without having to navigate configuration screens or remember names.

To begin, open your connected device app and navigate to the equipment dashboard where your connected power devices are displayed. Find the outlet you want to customize and tap fade on off dimmer it to access device info. Look for an option labeled Modify Visual—then tap that and you’ll typically be shown a gallery of icons featuring representations including a cup icon, a blower graphic, a plant symbol, a screen icon, or even seasonal icons like a snowflake or a pumpkin. Scroll through and select the one that best represents the device connected to the outlet.

If the app doesn’t offer the perfect match you’re looking for, some platforms let you upload a custom image from your device photos. This is helpful if you have a unique device or just want to use a photo of the item itself. Keep in mind that photos must be clear and minimally complex to ensure they remain recognizable at small sizes.

After selecting your icon, confirm the change and exit to your main dashboard. You should now see your new icon in place of the default one. Follow the same steps for each plug in your home. Over time, you’ll find that your app layout becomes much simpler to operate, especially if different household members use the app.

You can also cluster related devices under personalized labels. For example, relabel an outlet with a coffee cup icon as First Brew and another with a fan icon as Night Breeze. This hybrid visual-label system makes controlling your home more efficient and aesthetically pleasing. Customizing icons is a little adjustment, but it can dramatically transform how you interact with your connected residence every day.
