UPVC Replacement Door Handles

As time passes the handles on your doors will wear out and will require replacement. It is essential to keep the same dimensions as the handles that were previously used when replacing them.

The three measurements you need to examine are the top screw's location the lever and key hole sizes. Use the size guide to assist you.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever or lever door handle is a modern handle that can be put in on new or replacement doors. This style of handle is available in many styles and finishes. A variety of manufacturers provide this handle including Avocet, ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.

The handle can be placed and angled to accommodate all users. The handle has been endurance-tested to 200 000 cycles. This helps to ensure that the quality of finish and performance over time. The sprung lever can be reduced to accommodate more locks. This is particularly beneficial for doors with narrower frames, where the cylinder is located further back. A shortened lever can also be used for doors with a latch which can be operated with the thumb located on the inside.

Lever Pad

The lever pad upvc handle differs from the lever handles that are found on most doors. The handle can work off one single spindle (inline) or independently from both sides using two inline or offset spindles (pad). They are typically employed on UPVC double glazed doors. They are available in a variety of variations and styles.

The handles have been tested to a minimum of 200,000 cycles and are available in various finishes including White Silver, [empty] Chrome, & Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and is resistant to corrosion. This provides the handle with a high performance and durability to serve its intended use.

All of the UPVC lever pad designs are supplied with a spindle and screws which allow them to be put on a new or existing uPVC door. The backplate fixation centres of 211mm allow for a bigger handle, which is typically an advantage when replacing an old or damaged multi-point door lock mechanism. These handle levers are also spring-loaded, which solves the issue of handles that slide out of the horizontal position when they are not in use.

When choosing the replacement UPVC handle and spindle it is crucial to match the dimensions of the PZ on the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC door. This measurement is also called the 'handle centre' or 'cylinder centres' and is a critical aspect to match the appropriate handles.

Once you have the correct PZ size you will then need to ensure that the handle lever pads and push pads are of a suitable shape for the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant handles that you need for your doors. These are typically round or square with an internal lever, and an external push pad.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks can be found on uPVC and other kinds of doors. They work by using a key that unlock a cylinder case that then reveals pins which can be aligned with the pins in the lock body and permitting them to turn an revolving cam, opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins. External and internal doors require different levels of security.

Choosing the right cylinder is vitally important; this is dependent on the way your door and handle are utilized. For instance, exterior doors must be secured with a more secure cylinder whilst internal doors can be secured with a standard cylinder. Additionally, certain cylinders come with additional features that can improve security, for instance anti-drill or anti-bump properties.

To make sure that the euro cylinder is the right size for your door, it should be measured accurately. The cylinder should be measured from the screw hole in the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn, if there is one. If you are unable measure it using the lock in a fixed position, you can take it out of it. A cylinder that is protruding beyond the handle and escutcheon may be vulnerable to attacks, such as snapping locks, therefore it is essential that it is not too long.

The design of the latest cylinders has anti-drilling and bump resistance features. These features are designed to minimize the risk of attack by forcing the cylinder to rotate in the opposite direction. This will help to deflect attacks and protect your bifold door handle replacement.

There are cylinders that have been designed to resist snapping. This is a growing type of attack on cylinders which is where the break line of the lock is attacked by a tool that is specially designed to break the front of the cylinder to allow the door to be opened. This is much quicker and easier to achieve than opening multipoint locks. It also leaves little evidence of a break-in, which can hinder an insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette is found in the base plate of the door handle. It provides a sprung solution to bring the multipoint lock handles to their normal position after using. The handles for bifold doors had no spring, and would slide when the locking mechanism was disconnected. This simple part is the most effective way to fix this problem. It also helps prevent your door from becoming stuck in either the open or closed position, as they are difficult to close manually.

These spring cassettes were designed to be used with a spring multipoint lock. They will not fit handles for bifold doors that are not sprung and you'll have to cut a hole in your backplate in order for them to fit. (Please see the image for a detailed diagram). They are a replacement for existing damaged or missing cassettes inside the backplates of door handles of numerous kinds of uPVC doors. They are available as one unit. They have a square-cut out that can accommodate an 8mm shaft.
