The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention. It will leave your floors clean. Its low cost and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are great features.

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have examined. Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the most powerful model) they utilize intelligent mapping to design precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles like cords and furniture leg. They also have a feature called carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it spots the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a great deal, especially if your office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save money. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used when you're at work or going to school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot automatic hoover for carpets, but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This top-performing combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it will learn the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a carpeted area which prevents cross-contamination. The flex arm is perfect to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire house, finishing with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a great job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms that had various flooring types, such as some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was great, and it avoided fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robot vacuums that mop vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxy units, this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive designs in our reviews. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an intuitive mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings prior to work or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and some additional cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will delight most.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium rivals. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also has a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the home based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your home using the app or voice commands. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have number of furniture. iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to set up a spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas to improve performance. The app also gives access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
